Cher Lloyd on her new album

Cher Lloyd has moved away from the pop of her first album to produce a more emotive follow-up offering.

When she competed on The X Factor back in 2010, Simon Cowell called her one of his favourite “brats”.

However, she has had a successful stint in the US, got married and is more mature.

Discussing her ballad Sirens: “I feel this is the first time I’ve properly, properly sang since I did the Shakespeare Sister’s cover on X Factor.

“Coming from the whole bubble gum pop on my first album, to be releasing Sirens first in the UK is, I would say, a little bit of a risk really, because it’s something that people don’t necessary associate with me and what I used to sound.

“I’ve grown up a lot and I think it’s going to take a little bit of a while, even for my UK fans, to sort of get used to the change in music as well.”

The video to go with the song is a change and quite dark.

Cher revealed to Digital Spy: “It’s almost like a mini movie. People have said to me it’s like a mini film. I wouldn’t really class it as a pop video.

“As a kid my mum always said I was a little actress. You know, I always wanted to involve myself in stuff like that and I still do, anything showbiz and I’m involved.”

Discussing the difference between her new album Sorry I’m Late and her debut Sticks and Stones, Cher said: “It’s like it’s a different person.

“My voice is always consistent, and I think I have quite an unusual voice and hopefully people can recognise it and know that it’s me, regardless of what song it is.

“The change really is within me and you know the music just followed that.”
