Magalie ‘Love Criminal’ video and exclusive interview

 

Born in Paris, Magalie’s family moved to London when she was five. Showing typical determination, Magalie learned English in just two weeks at her new school.

 

Her Mauritian parents helped nurture a love of music – mum’s love of Bollywood music, dad’s of Mauritius’ percussive homegrown music, sega.

You have written with some amazing people over the years including Guy Chambers and Wayne Hector but what did you most learn from the experience?
I was very lucky to have the opportunity to work with them, actually couldn’t believe it when Guy Chambers wanted to sign me!!!

I learnt that it is not the end of the world if you don’t write a hit everyday… relax and it will come.

What do you love most about living in London
What a very long list this is and it is still growing… I love the people, I feel very free to express myself here without judgement. I love the noise of the city and I love smiling at strangers on the underground or wherever, its just perfect when they smile back.

Which artist did you last watch perform live?
Oh that would be Madonna and that tumble no one will ever forget… She is such a gangsta! Love how she just got up and continued, I would have so played dead lol.

Where did you get your cool sense of style from? You look amazing in the ‘Love Criminal’ video!
I knew from the beginning that I wanted to pick fashion styles from a different era with Love Criminal. When the director John Turner gave me the same feedback referencing ‘West Side Story’, I knew that was it!

Love Criminal is released^th April 6th 2015.

Your new single is out this April, what are you working on right now?
I have already written an albums worth of songs, but I can’t just sit around on my butt. So I am still writing and recording new stuff and I have been collaborating with some very interesting people. Can’t wait to reveal that good stuff!

What can we expect from you later this year?
Explosive, colourful, expressive, crazy happenings!
