Star Wars: The Force Awakens – Mark Hamill interview

Mark Hamill has (finally) been chatting about the incoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens…

It’s been interesting and commendable to see just how the pre-publicity for next month’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens has managed to keep things under wraps. That there’s been an intention to tease, but not spoil, JJ Abrams’ incoming movie.

Mark Hamill

It’s no secret that Mark Hamill is reprising the role of Luke Skywalker in the movie, but also, he’s been entirely absent from the promo clips and trailers we’ve seen to date. Furthermore, he’s been absent from the rounds of interviews that have been happening.

Now, though, he’s done an interview to promote Star Wars: The Force Awakens, for Famous Monsters Of Filmland magazine.

“It is about setting up the next generation of heroes and villains, but the fact that half a dozen cast members from the originals can be there to place it in some sort of context, to be there for the historical side of things, I think it’s wonderful”, he says of the new movie. “Young people can see the progression of the characters. I’m old enough to be Luke’s grandfather now, and that’s a healthy, natural thing for people to see”.

As for how The Force Awakens will differ from the movies to date, Hamill says that he thinks it “could be every bit as exciting for the audience, [but] it’s not going to be like it was then, when we’re rattling around in the Death Star, and exchanging quips, and jockeying for the affections of the princess. It’s going to be age appropriate. The story has moved on, and our purpose in the story is different than it was then”.

The new issue of Famous Monsters Of Filmland, with the full Hamill interview, will go on sale from December 8th. Star Wars: The Force Awakens, meanwhile, lands in UK cinemas on December 17th.

‘Star Wars The Force Awakens’ could become the biggest movie ever
