Amanda Seyfriend says male movie co-star was paid 90% more

Actress AMANDA SEYFRIED has learned to fight for a better salary on film sets after once discovering she was only receiving 10 per cent of what her male co-star was earning.

The 29 year-old Ted 2 star has refused to name the project she was working on at the time, or the male celebrity she was starring alongside, but admits the information about the huge disparity in the leading actors’ pay was enough to teach her not to blindly accept what’s being offered for a role.

She told The Times, “A few years ago, on one of my big-budget films, I found I was being paid 10 per cent of what my male co-star was getting, and we were pretty even in (celebrity) status.

“I think people think that just because I’m easy-going and game to do things I’ll just take as little as they offer… It’s not about how much you get, it’s about how fair it is.”

Seyfried is known for her roles in films like Les Miserables, Dear John, Red Riding Hood and Mamma Mia!.

The gender pay disparity in Hollywood has been a hot topic for several months after the Sony Pictures hacking scandal last year (14) revealed stars like Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Adams received lower salaries for their work on 2013’s American Hustle than their male colleagues, including Bradley Cooper and Christian Bale.

Boyhood star Patricia Arquette also shed light on the problem by issued her rallying cry for fair pay for women in all industries during her acceptance speech at the Oscars in February (15).
