A sequel to hugely successful Jurassic World has been announced, with Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard reprising their roles for the follow-up film.

News of the follow-up film was announced on Thursday, after it was revealed earlier this week that the fourth movie in the dinosaur franchise has become the third highest-grossing movie of all time.

Chris Pratt is returning for a Jurassic World sequel.

So it comes as little surprise Universal Pictures has greenlit another film, which will be hitting theatres on Friday June 22, 2018.

Chris will be reprising his role as dinosaur whisperer Owen, while Bryce Dallas Howard is also set to return as Jurassic World boss Claire.

Director Colin Trevorrow, who was little known before he landed the role of helming and writing the first reboot, will also be returning to co-write the next film with Derek Connolly.

Steven Spielberg, who directed Jurassic Park in 1993 and the sequel The Lost World: Jurassic Park in 1997, has been announced to produce the film with Frank Marshall.

The director for the sequel has yet to be confirmed.

It was revealed on Wednesday that Jurassic World has overtaken The Avengers to make movie history by taking $1.52 billion at box offices worldwide.

It is beaten only by Avatar, which is in first place with takings of $2.78 billion, and Titanic, which made $2.18 billion.
