Watch The Terrifying New Teaser Trailer for the Reboot of ‘It’

If you hate clowns, you should probably avoid this terrifying new trailer for It.

Warner Bros have released a horrifying trailer showing the new-look Pennywise from the upcoming ‘It’ movie

The man behind the grim visage of the murderous clown is Swedish actor Bill Skarsgård, previously seen in Netflix’s Hemlock Grove and teen dystopian action movie The Divergent Series: Allegiant. Previous still images have shown him with soul-sucking eyes, sadistic grin and skeletal pallor. The trailer takes things up a notch.

It opens with the iconic scene of Georgie sailing a paper boat in the rain. As it flushes down a drain, “It” appears in the dark. The trailer ends with “It” frantically launching himself through the sewers before his image flashes up on a projector.

The film is directed by Andrés Muschietti, best known for 2013’s chilling Mama. Muschietti’s remake updates the 1990 miniseries, which saw Tim Curry instill fear in the hearts of a generation as the horrifying entity.

Both versions are based on Stephen King’s 1986 novel of the same name. Like much of King’s work, it’s set in a small New England town and exposes the horrors and hypocrisies of close-knit communities through a supernatural lens – here, with a gang of misfit kids battling their fears made manifest. Split over two time periods, the first part follows “The Losers’ Club” in their youth, while the second reunites them as adults to once more face their fears – and It.

While things are looking promisingly terrifying for the new It now, the project has had a troubled development. Warner Bros. began developing the film in 2009, with Cary Fukunaga coming on board to direct. In 2014, development shifted to New Line Cinema, but Fukunaga departed in 2015 citing creative differences. Muschietti came on board in July 2015, but the film then lost actor Will Poulter, who had been set to play Pennywise, due to a scheduling conflict.

New Line and Muschietti currently plan to adapt King’s story across two movies, one for each time period. However, both will stand alone, and the fate of the second is said to be reliant on the success of the first.

Muschietti and Skarsgård’s It is due for release in September 2017. With the new Pennywise seared into your mind already though, good luck sleeping folks.
