The Vamps

ON THE SOUND OF THE VAMPS NEW ALBUM
I think the whole sound of the second album is different. It’s definitely a progression. Its quite in your face.

ON MAJOR POP INFLUENCES
We listened to Taylor Swift’s 1989, but also stuff like MGMT. We’ve been writing similar songs melodically, but incorporating different things too.

ON TAKING A BREAK
It’s been a year and a half, but that time seemed like so much less for us, because we’ve been working non-stop. We didn’t really have a break. I guess some bands wait years (between albums) but we did a song for a Disney movie in the meantime. It probably felt to the rest of the world that we were being really active but to us, we’d already wound down.

ON LIVING UP TO THEIR IMAGE OF BEING BIGGEST BOY GROUP
It’s quite humbling, really, because you put in a lot of time and effort to make the best music you can; you slave over it and then it’s a big push. A lot is at stake. For people to like it so much that they pay to see us on tour, it’s an amazing thing.

ON WORKING WITH GRAMMY & GOLDEN GLOBE-NOMINEE SAVAN KOTECHA (WRITING OF SMASH HITS WITH ADAM LAMBERT/ELLIE GOULDING / BRITNEY)
It’s cool because (Savan) was in a rock band when he was a kid, so he identifies with a lot of the things we want to do. He’s just clever, isn’t he? I mean it’s not… Formulaic isn’t the right word, but he just knows. He has a knack for this.
