Opportunist thieves are reported to have struck during yesterday’s episode of Strictly Come Dancing to steal from the dressing rooms of the show’s stars.

The TV dance competition was broadcasting live from Blackpool’s Tower Ballroom when personal items were stolen from backstage, according to a newspaper report.

The Mirror reports that Abbey Clancy, Natalie Gumede and Sophie Ellis Bextor were among those to have lost belongings to the sneak thieves.

As well as cash, iPhones and iPads are believed to have been taken from the stars’ dressing rooms as they performed to a packed ballroom.

A police spokesperson was quoted as saying: “We are investigating a theft that has occurred this evening at the Tower ballroom at Blackpool.

“It was reported to us at around 9:45pm that some items had been taken from a dressing room within the building.

“Officers are investigating the theft and are making a number of enquiries to trace the person or people responsible and we would appeal to anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area to contact police.”

The thefts will be particularly upsetting for former Coronation Street actor Natalie, who had only just returned to the show after collapsing during last week’s rehearsals – and gone on to be joint top of the leaderboard with a near-perfect score of 39.
