Tonight’s BGT sees the panel – Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon, David Walliams and Amanda Holden – witness another round of madcap auditions, but hopefuls now have only three chances to get a Golden Buzzer after Amanda used hers last week.

From an opera didgeridoo duo, a motocross display team to a spoon-playing Michael Jackson impersonator, the acts showing off in the second episode of Britain’s Got Talent 2014.

The new twist gives each judge the power to send one act straight through to the live shows, regardless of what the other three think.

Musical instruments are the main theme this week, with several acts taking to the stage to play to the nation – and one, Lady Enchantress, hopes that her performance will inspire more people to play the recorder.

Meanwhile, David brands Lettice Rowbotham he “poshest” contestant ever to appear on BGT after her demonstration of the electric violin.

But if those instruments aren’t to your taste, then you may prefer Operadoo – who combine the didgeridoo with operatic vocals – or Saws Crossed, a ‘sawchestra’ that tries to get a tune out of (you guessed it) saws.

David is known to be partial to the slightly more bonkers acts, and there are several that get him smiling tonight, including electric guitar player Steve Reynolds, and Irish teenager Brid Og Le Spun-Og (we hope that’s not her real name) – who dresses up as Michael Jackson to play her spoons.

Christian Spridon’s rendition of Tom Jones’ ‘Sex Bomb’ also wins over the former Little Britain star – while he even gets on stage himself to dance with software developer Azmat.

David’s not the only judge to join in though, as something possesses the notoriously uptight Simon Cowell to volunteer as a target in 11-year-old Edward Pinder’s circus knife-throwing act – with near dangerous results.

Presenter Dec also comes out to assist Alex Lodge with his table-lifting illusion, with more magic on offer from Chris Nicholson and Jay Adkins, and Canadian Darcy Oake, who leaves the theatre speechless with a sleight-of-hand spectacular that involves doves, a bird cage and a mystery woman.

Elsewhere, there’s music from James Smith – who sings his unique version of Nina Simone’s ‘Feelin’ Good’ – and dance from Liverpool under-tens Twinklettes and 38-strong troupe The Mad Bunch.

However, by far the biggest performance of the show comes from the Bolddog FMX Team – who drag the judges outside and leave them open-mouthed with a death-defying motocross display that launches them 75 feet in to the air.

Britain’s Got Talent 2014 continues tonight at 7.00pm on ITV, followed by Britain’s Got More Talent with Stephen Mulhern on ITV2.
