Robot Wars confirmed to make a return

‘Robot Wars’ is being rebooted by BBC Two following 12 years off TV screens.

The geek tech TV show, which is branded an ‘absolute TV classic’, last appeared on screens 12 years ago but is now being rebooted by BBC Two for a new six-part series.

Robot Wars

Alan Tyler, BBC acting controller of entertainment commissioning, said: ”The redeveloped ‘Robot Wars’ proved compelling, offering a mix of real people, real passion and raw power. It is remarkable to see how much more powerful these robots have become since the series last aired, with battles now staged in an arena that is literally bullet-proof.”

Bosses have promised the forthcoming series will involve ”more battles and more science than ever before” as techno whizzes pit their impressive robots against each other.

‘Robot Wars’ was originally presented by former ‘Coronation Street’ actor Craig Charles, who portrayed cabbie Lloyd Mullaney until his departure last year, from 1998 until 2004.

And, although a presenter for the reboot is yet to be announced, the comedian, 51, is keen to front the new show.

Taking to his Twitter account, he wrote: ”Okay guys. I’ve heard the news but as yet have had no contact with anyone involved in the new production of robot wars.#lovetodoit.”

Meanwhile, more details surrounding the reboot, including the release date, will be announced in due course.
