Despite Simon and fellow judges Cheryl Cole, Louis Walsh and Mel B having completed the first round of try outs, the boss isn’t happy with the quality of talent on show so far.

He’s called on producers to find better acts and scout out exceptional singers for one last judges’ room audition day next month before the arena try outs.

“Simon watched the tapes of the auditions and was concerned,” a source said this week.

They explained: “He has told producers to hand-pick some of the best singers in the UK and invite them to sing at the audition, which will take place next month.”

The Star reports that Simon has ordered the judges to fly back to the UK for the extra filming next week, ahead of the arena auditions in Wembley.

But it’s not just serious singers that Simon wants the producers to be on the look out for.

Gone are the ‘pretty boys with guitars’ and in are camp, fun novelty acts.

The insider told the tabloid: “Last series there weren’t any acts that got everyone talking. It was dull.

“This series the producers want lots of acts like Rylan and Steps, who are fun but with good vocals as well.”
