X-Factor Finalist Amelia Lily will be making her West End debut in the role of ‘Whatshername.’ She recently completed her run as the Narrator in the UK Tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber & Tim Rice’s ‘Joseph And His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.’

The show’s producers released the following statement:

“We are absolutely delighted to be bringing American Idiot to the Arts Theatre this Summer and Autumn, following its very successful life on Broadway. It’s a cracking musical for fans old and new, and we have had a fantastic relationship with the Arts Theatre for years. We can’t wait to bring this musical to the heart of London.”

Green Day’s American Idiot features music by Green Day, lyrics by Billie Joe Armstrong, and a book by Billie Joe Armstrong. The West End premiere will be directed and choreographed by Racky Plews.

Synopsis: “Green Day’s American Idiot is the story of three boyhood friends, each searching for meaning in a post 9-11 world. Its hit songs include ‘Boulevard of Broken Dreams,’ ’21 Guns,’ ‘Wake Me Up When September Ends,’ ‘Holiday’ and the title track ‘American Idiot’ from Green Day’s 2004 Grammy Award-winning, multi-platinum album.”

The creative team features scenic design by Sara Perks, sound design by Chris Whybrow, and lighting design by Tim Deiling. The show is produced by David Hutchinson and Philip Rowntree for Sell A Door Theatre Company and Stephen McGill Productions, with Associate Producers Hartshorn – Hook Productions, London Contemporary Theatre, and Nathan Gardner/Danny Brooke.

Further casting will be announced in the coming weeks.

Green Day’s American Idiot originally premiered at Berkeley Repertory Theatre in September 2009, before moving to Broadway’s St James Theatre in April 2010. It was nominated for Best Musical at the 2010 Tony Awards and won two Tonys – Best Scenic Design of a Musical and Best Lighting Design of a Musical. It also picked up Best Musical Show at the 2010 Grammy Awards. In Autumn 2012, it embarked on a tour of the UK & Ireland, culminating at the HMV Hammersmith Apollo in London.
