In the film, Jackman will play famous conman-turned-showman Barnum, who founded the Barnum & Bailey Circus troupe.

It has not however to be revealed what role Efron would play in the film say the The Hollywood Reporter.

Jackman, who is also producing the movie, has been attached to the project for years. In 2009, reports suggested he would star alongside his future Les Miserables castmate Anne Hathaway – and she would play Barnum’s love interest Jenny Lind, who the impresario dubbed the Swedish Nightingale. It is unclear whether new mum Hathaway is still attached to the project.

Over the years, the script has been tweaked by various writers, including a first draft by Sex and the City alum Jenny Bicks and Big Hero 6’s Jordan Roberts, with a subsequent version written by Dreamgirls’ Bill Condon. The final draft was written by This Is Where I Leave You author Jonathan Tropper.

Tony nominees Benj Pasek and Justin Paul wrote the score, with additional musical contributions from songwriter Bonnie McKee and Scissor Sisters frontman Jake Shears.

In February (16), a reading of the project featuring a cast of Broadway regulars, including Cynthia Erivo, who won the Best Leading Actress In A Musical Tony for The Color Purple during Sunday’s (12Jun16) ceremony, was presented to producers.

The Greatest Showman on Earth is scheduled for release next year (17).
