Sam Smith is writing songs for his next album

Sam Smith learned to become a “natural liar” by blagging sweets from his parents as a child.

“To get compared to Adele is amazing. I’d like to think that it’s an honesty and fearlessness to talk about my life through music. Amy Winehouse had the same thing. She’s one of my idols for being truthful.”

The singer had to master the art of secrecy when he was selected to perform the soundtrack for 2015 James Bond movie Spectre. News Sam would be behind the track leaked before it was made official, which meant the star had to pretend it was all just gossip. Luckily, it didn’t prove tough for the cheeky con-artist.

“I was told to deny (it), so that’s what I did,” he grinned to Heat. “I’m a naturally good liar – it’s bad isn’t it? As a kid, I mastered it, trying to get sweets from my mum and dad. I’m not proud of it.”

In the months leading up to the release of Spectre, the 24th installment in the James Bond movie franchise, Radiohead emerged as the favorites to compose the film’s theme song. Ultimately, producers opted for Sam Smith’s theme, but the rumors were not unfounded.

This morning, Thom Yorke revealed that Radiohead did indeed write an original song for the film. “Last year we were asked to write a tune for Bond movie Spectre. Yes we were.” he tweeted. “It didn’t work out”.

While Sam may have been partial to sweet treats as a tot, fans are unlikely to see him indulging these days. He’s lost a lot of weight recently and plans to keep it that way.

“It’s going to be a battle for the rest of my life,” he sighed. “It’s not like it’s this horrible diet that kills me – if I want to have something bad, I do it. I just have to stay on top of it.”

Sam, 23, allowed himself a bit of a break over the festive period, however he is writing songs and has even come up with the title for his next album.

He’s also trying not to let a quest for romance get in the way of his music. “Before I’d think I’d want it to be more romantic, but I just want to hang out now,” he recently told ET of how his perfect date has changed over time. “That’s kind of it, just hang out.

“(It’s difficult because) you maybe don’t know people’s intentions… At the same time I have never had a boyfriend in my life. So I don’t know any different. So that’s kind of a blessing I guess.”
