Kelly Rowland ordeal over perfecting her make-up look

One third of Destinys Child and the first to go solo, Kelly Rowland has managed to stay grounded and relevant through all of the fly-by-night singers who have come and gone.

It takes a special kind of determination for any artist to be compared to other star singers, have their songs dictated, dodge their relationships making the front page of entertainment news and still be able to smile as brightly as she does. But the new mom, fitness enthusiast and gifted singer has managed to do it all. In the process, she’s put out some solid music, too.

Kelly Rowland has admitted she struggled with her make-up in Destiny’s Child because it made her look like a ”monster”.

The 35-year-old singer – who was a member of the group alongside Beyonce and Michelle Williams – even found cosmetic professionals struggled to perfect her ”chocolate” complexion with often unfortunate results.

Speaking about her beauty faux pas, she told people mag: ”I remember going to Europe and there was this one make-up artist — I’m a chocolate girl, and she made me look pink.

”And then when she tried again, I looked green. And then when she tried again, I looked way fairer than what I really am.”

”I looked like a monster in one picture.”

The ”Down On Love’ singer admitted she needed to learn to do her own make-up after looking ”crazy” on her first efforts.

She said: ”I remember Destiny’s Child went to the Brit Awards, and we tried to do our faces ourselves — I looked crazy. So I had to learn!”

However, the star has admitted that she has learnt from her beauty blunders, which has led her to partnering with make-up artist Sheika Daley – who has been the mastermind behind her red carpet glamour for years, as well as Zendaya and Nicki Minaj – on a new cosmetic line, suited for all women of all skin tones.

In conversation with Essence magazine, she said: ”My make-up artist Sheika Daley and I are actually starting a make-up line we’re making sure we make, well, we’re starting off with lashes and then we’re going to have it grow for all women.

”But definitely making sure we have our chocolate girls covered. Gotta get the chocolate girls in there! We have to have that, you know. I think Iman has done a beautiful make-up line and I want to do it too!”
