Expect the Unexpected at Carling Festival Weekend

Carling music festival 2016

Schools out and festival season is here, and whilst there is always the option to play Bingo online or take in a seaside resort for the day, many people are taking tent poles to arms and heading to their local music festivities. And why not make a lasting memory of it and stay for the entire duration?  There’s still tickets to be had for big name music festivals, and the Carling Festival weekend is hotting up to be one of the best they’ve had in years.

Who’s there?

With 8 stages and over 200 bands and comedy acts, 2016 is going to be big. Those who go will be seeing the likes of Nothing but Thieves, who supported the giants Muse on their latest tour but shone in their own right, as well as Third Eye Blind who are back with a brand new album. And, British millennial band Maximo Park will be entertaining on Friday.  Headlining on the main stage will be the legends that is the Chili Peppers. It’s been 9 years since their last Leeds/Reading appearance and these guys always put on a memorable show – they will no doubt be playing a few songs from their latest album. The Chilis definitely aren’t the only things that will be hot this weekend though.

Light Packing

Whilst the entertainment is scorching, you never know what the future holds with British weather. It goes without saying that packing a hat is essential, as is a pair of good old fashioned wellies. However, don’t waste money and bag space on rain gear. A roll of bin bags can go a long way and you’ll quickly see that no one is making a fashion statement at these places. Use bags for raincoats, sleeping mats… or you know… just to put your beer can rubbish in.  A pack of tissues for emergency bathroom breaks is always nice to have on hand too! All Out Camping Fun

Why rough it with portaloo queues and camp wash stops? If getting messy isn’t your style, you can still enjoy the atmosphere and the fun. Campervan, car park and locker options are all still available meaning you can take much more with you, keep it private and have a little luxury to relax during the weekend of craziness. Maybe skip the hair straighteners?

Volunteering for Your Ticket

Volunteering is a great way to meet new people and get new experiences. It also gives you different access to the festival that you might never have expected…. as well as a free ticket. There are various roles available to volunteer for, including the “green messenger” role. This will see you working on the environmental impact aspect of the festival, salvaging and recycling dropped items as well as encouraging others to do the same. Another role is campsite assisting, which kind of does what it says on the tin. You’d be working alongside the fire and medical teams onsite, and helping other festival goers with any problems they might have.

This year’s Leeds/Reading Festival is set to be amazing.  You’ll have an awesome time!
