The ‘In The Lonely Hour’ singer still can’t believe the size of the crowds he performs to.
Sam Smith has revealed that going from playing decent sized music venues to taking the stage at massive world famous outdoor festivals has been an incredible experience and he has thoroughly enjoyed this summer.
Talking about the summer schedule of playing festivals, the ‘Stay With Me’ sensation admitted it was overwhelming to suddenly find himself performing to thousands upon thousands of people:
“The size of the crowds is the thing for me this year which has just been incredible”.
You know it’s such a free for all you don’t know who’s going to come you don’t know how many people are going to come. At the moment I’ve been playing 3000 cap venues, so having played to 50,000 people today, it’s crazy.”
‘Staying grounded is really hard,’ he says.
‘When you’re surrounded by people telling you you’re great, it’s quite warped and tough. My team and my mum are strong enough to sort me out if it looks like I’m going to turn into a diva.’
The star will head to the USA next month in September for a full headlining tour and it’s due to kick off on September 15 in Boston at the House of Blues, which has already sold out.
