Focus Features has acquired U.S. distribution rights to “London Has Fallen,” sequel to “Olympus Has Fallen,” and set an Oct. 2, 2015 release date in the States.
“London Has Fallen” will go up against Fox’s “Frankenstein” on the date. Gerard Butler has returned for the sequel, which does not have a director.
The story will take place in London with an attack on the city during the funeral of the British prime minister, who has died under mysterious circumstances. Butler will reprise his role as a U.S. Secret Service agent.
The script for the sequel is written by Creighton Rothenberger, Katrin Benedikt and Christian Gudegast. The film is being produced by Butler, Alan Siegel, Mark Gill, and Matt O’Toole.
“Olympus Has Fallen” was released last year in March by FilmDistrict, the U.S. distributor led by Peter Schlessel prior to him being named CEO of Focus Features. The film grossed $98.9 million at the domestic box office.
MarkMeets can reveal that the movie will star Morgan Freeman, Aaron Eckhart and Radha Mitchell.
