Jason Statham says he’ll never play a superhero

Hollywood movie actor Jason Statham has revealed that he has no interest in starring in a superhero movie admitting that “the cape wouldn’t fit”.

Statham, whose latest movie Homefront opens in UK cinemas this Friday (December 6), confessed that visual effects-driven blockbusters don’t hold any personal appeal to him.

“It’s all about money, kids pay money to go and see them,” Statham said. “The fascination is superheroes, it’s what people want to go and see but you wouldn’t get me rushing to the cinema to see those. I like the old-fashioned type of film.

“They’ve never offered me a part in one of those and I don’t think the shoes would fit. Or the cape wouldn’t fit!” he told Digital Spy.

Speaking about Homefront, which sees him play a retired DEA agent who faces off against Louisiana drug dealers, Statham said he welcomed the opportunity to reunite with Sylvester Stallone.

The Expendables creator wrote the script for Homefront, and originally envisioned it as a starring vehicle for himself before handing it over to Statham.

“When I read it I just knew it was going to attract a lot of decent actors,” he commented. “The parts were fleshed-out, good and strong instead of it just being ‘here’s the hero, here’s the bad guy’. This was an actual, interesting good story.

“I liked the relationship my character Broker has with his daughter, that was new for me.”

Homefront co-stars James Franco as drug dealer Gator Bodine, Kate Boswoth as his addict sister Cassie and Winona Ryder as Sheryl Marie Mott.
