The Rover is an apocalyptic/dystopian film set in the 10 year aftermath of a worldwide financial meltdown. Despite the all too real aspects in terms of backdrop to Michôd’s film, it is not a “big picture” film that attempts to deal with this financial world ruin on a grand scale. Instead, the movie alludes to the wider reach of the Australian outback being filled with immigrants who flock to the country to work in mines.

Robert Pattinson and Guy Pearce attend the movie preview screening of ‘The Rover’ at BFI Southbank, London August 6th.

The inclusion of the American accent as well as a few other non-Aussie roles is the only acknowledgement to the outside world’s bigger problem. The film focusses on Guy Pearce’s character Eric and Robert Pattinson’s character Rey.

Robert Pattinson who we still preefer to call Edward Cullen has admitted he does not understand the backlash against Twilight.

The actor starred in the series of films as vampire Edward Cullen.

He explained that although the first film was well received, fans were more critical of the sequels.

Pattinston told Daily Beast: “I don’t understand the backlash against Twilight.

“The first movie, everyone liked it. But then it was suddenly… I don’t quite get why people turned on the other ones.”

He added: “There are plenty of successful franchises which everyone accepts.

“But for some reason there were all these political arguments against it.

“People saying, ‘Oh, it’s a bad example for women.’ Blah, blah, blah. As if we were all a bunch of dumbasses.”

He continued: “We’re not playing it that way! That’s purely your interpretation! We’re not trying to make a movie about subservient female characters at all.”

Robert said that ultimately starring in the films had made him a better actor.

He explained: “I’ve found that the Twilight movies were probably the hardest jobs I’ve done.

“You have so many parameters to play the character within, and also you’re doing five movies where you have to play the same point every time and figure out different variations on it. It was really hard. It was like trying to write a haiku.”

Robert’s latest film The Rover will be released on August 22nd.
