Paul Simon lands first UK number 1 album in 25 years

Singer Paul Simon has earned his first UK number one album in 25 years with The Ultimate Collection as Wiz Khalifa claims fastest-selling single of 2015 so far with See You Again

Album news: Paul Simon’s greatest hits collection is his first time he has topped the albums chart since 1990’s The Rhythm of the Saints.

James Bay’s Chaos and the Calm remains at number two, while x by Ed Sheeran stays in third position.

Sam Smith‘s In the Lonely Hour keeps at number four, as Glitterbug by The Wombats debuts at number five.

Halestorm earn their first UK top 40 album with Into the Wild Life at 10, and Shawn Mendes enters the chart with his debut album Handwritten at 12.

Cherry Bomb by Tyler, The Creator debuts at number 16, while Shayne Ward‘s Closer is new in at 17.

Stornoway’s Bonxie enters the chart at number 20, as folk band Villagers take number 27 with their third album Darling Arithmetic.

Beth Hart lands at 33 with Better Than Home, and Lulu’s Making Life Rhyme – the ‘Shout’ singer’s first studio album in ten years – enters the chart at number 35.

Calexico’s Edge of the Sun debuts at 37, while Eels rounds off the top 40 with Royal Albert Hall.

Single news: ‘See You Again’ by Wiz Khalifa (Pictured below) also sets a new streaming record, racking up 3.68 million streams in seven days. The figure smashes past Goulding’s ‘Love Me Like You Do’, which previously held the record with 2.58 million streams.

The song features on the soundtrack to Furious 7 and pays tribute to cast member Paul Walker, who passed away during the filming of the blockbuster in November 2013. The movie has grossed $1 billion in just 17 days.

Climbing 25 places to No.2 this week is OMI’s ‘Cheerleader’. The Felix Jaehn remix of the song was rush-released due to popular demand and also claims massive streaming numbers this week, totalling 2.63 million.

Meanwhile, last week’s No.1 ‘Hold My Hand’ by Jess Glynne slips to No.3, Spanish house DJ Dr Kucho!’s Gregor Salto collaboration ‘Can’t Stop Playing’ FT Ane Brun is this week’s highest new entry and No.4, and Years & Years’ ‘King’ completes the Top 5.

Grime musician Lethal Bizzle claims this week’s second-highest new entry at No.11 with ‘Fester Skank’. The track joins last year’s ‘Rariworkout’ and 2005’s ‘Pow’ as the highest-charting single of his career.

Elsewhere, Major Lazer FT MO’s ‘Lean On’ leaps 11 places to No.13, Iggy Azalea and Jennifer Hudson’s ‘Trouble’ enters the Top 40 at No.21, and Kodaline score their fourth Top 40 hit with ‘The One’ at No.27
