YolanDa Brown talks “Tours” and “Julian Marley” with MarkMeets

MarkMeets were was invited to chat with YolanDa Brown backstage as part of her “Reggae Love Songs” tour, held in London recently.

YolanDa spills her tour exclusive and collaboration with Bob Marley’s son! …YolanDa Brown, is a British saxophonist and composer. She won the MOBO Awards in 2008 for “Best Jazz” winner. She has worked with other musicians on bands for The Temptations and Monty Alexander. As a soloist she collaborated with Alexander O’Neal, Mica Paris and many others.

We asked if YolanDa could tell us what we can be surprised by during her tour. She had this to say …

“It’s a musical journey. I’m playing saxophone which is based in Jazz. But, we are pulling on genres of Reggae and Soul also. We want to create this evening of music, which conquers all the different areas of love. Be it Romance, Be it an appreciation of something, and others. So, we cover all the feelings and genres with songs that you may know and some new music I wrote myself”.

We then asked: Are there any songs we might recognise from tonight’s concert? …

“Well, of course. In the genre of Reggae who else to pull from but Bob Marley. He is my favourite artist. I was SO honoured to be joined by his son Julian Marley in concert, at Hackney Empire. One of my songs is, Waiting in Vain”. — Says YoldanDa.

YolanDa mentioned working with Bob Marley’s son “Julian Marley”. We asked if she could eloborate more this amazing collaboration?…

“We launched this tour last year in Feburary, at the Hackney Empire. It was a wonderful time, we had special guests: Mica Paris, Omar, Julian Marley. Julian came up on to the stage, we were both denim on denim, and, we had a fantastic time”.
