Natalie Cassidy returning to ‘Eastenders’ as Sonia Fowler!

Sonia Fowler will return to Eastenders in January as part of a ‘gripping’ and ‘dramatic’ storyline for the female members of the Jackson family, it has been revealed. The character, played by Natalie Cassidy between 1993 and 2007 before guest reappearances in 2010 and 2011 will return next year.

As one of the longest-serving actresses in the history of EastEnders, Natalie Cassidyhas been in and out of the soap for longer than I can remember.

The character will return to the Square with teenage daughter Rebecca in tow for a reunion with mother Carol (Lindsay Coulson) and half-sister Bianca (Patsy Palmer). Long-term fans will remember Rebecca’s dramatic birth after Sonia gave birth on the sofa in 2000 not even knowing that she was pregnant.

Speaking about her return, Cassidy said: ”After seven years being out of the show, apart from the odd episode, I am extremely excited and honoured to be making a full-time return.”

”I feel so lucky as an actress to get back to my roots. With Dominic [Treadwell-Collins] as executive producer, it’s such an exciting time for the show. I cannot wait to work with Patsy and Lindsey again. Bring it on!”
Cassidy’s return comes after the return of Samantha Womack as Ronnie Mitchell earlier this year. Viewers will see her return in the new year, alongside Rebecca. It is yet to be confirmed whether Rebecca will return as a recast.
