2016 will be another huge year for celebrity from blockbuster movie releases to new music artists and big budget TV shows!

The new year will bring in a fresh crop of films too, plenty of must-see television and fresh chart-topping musicians.

Here’s who – and what – will make a mark in 2016.

MOVIES

The blockbuster returns
2016 will see some of the biggest titles return, just when fans thought they never would. Actor Matt Damon returns to screens as Jason Bourne, with the much-anticipated release of Bourne 5, and an all-female cast will lead the Ghostbusters reboot, which is being directed by Bridesmaids’ Paul Feig. Sci-fi blockbuster Independence Day returns with its next instalment titled Resurgence. Actor Will Smith won’t be returning but new faces like Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher and Maika Monroe will lead the charge.

Finding Dory
Thirteen years after Finding Nemo swam off our screens, Dory – voiced by Ellen DeGeneres – is back for a movie of her own. The forgetful blue reef fish is on the hunt to find her family, accompanied by her clown fish friends Nemo and Marlin.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice
Mankind faces a new threat as Batman (Ben Affleck) embarks on a personal vendetta against Superman (Henry Cavill).

Independence Day: Resurgence
Using recovered extraterrestrial technology, the nations of Earth collaborate on an immense defense program to protect the planet. When the aliens attack with unprecedented force, only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can save the world.

Kung Fu Panda 3
After reuniting with his long-lost father (Bryan Cranston), Po (Jack Black) must train a village of clumsy pandas to help him defeat the villainous Kai (J.K. Simmons).

Zoolander 2
Models Derek Zoolander (Ben Stiller) and Hansel (Owen Wilson) must stop a conspiracy to kill the world’s most beautiful people.

Ghostbusters
Four women (Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon) battle troublemaking specters.

TV

Game Of Thrones
Season six of the popular fantasy series will premiere in America in April. Although still based on the novels of George RR Martin, much of the content will be original or adapted from his as-yet-unpublished novel, The Winds Of Winter.

Strictly , The X Factor (Last series probably), the Bake Off, I’m A Celebrity…
The broadcasters’ staple programmes show no signs of stopping. Simon Cowell has even vowed to bring back The X Factor next year despite a drop in ratings. Shows including Strictly Come Dancing and the Great British Bake Off have enjoyed healthy viewing figures and will certainly be back in 2016.

Victoria
Former Doctor Who assistant Jenna Coleman will star in an eight-part drama about the early reign of Queen Victoria. The ITV show will tell the story from her accession to the throne at the age of 18 through to her marriage to Prince Albert.

Top Gear
With Top Gear set to compete against Jeremy Clarkson’s new Amazon motoring show, Harry Potter to appear on the West End stage and classic BBC sitcoms to be revived, 2016 is set to be an eventful year in showbiz.

Chris Evans will roar onto TV screens some time in the new year with a re-vamped version of Top Gear. Meanwhile, Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May – who left the BBC after Clarkson was fired for a “fracas” with a producer – will be fronting a rival motoring show on Amazon Prime.

War And Peace
The ambitious BBC drama, due to start in January, will re-tell Leo Tolstoy’s story about the Russian aristocracy at the time of the French invasion of Russia. Starring Paul Dano, Lily James and James Norton, it will be broadcast in over 10 countries around the world.

BBC One’s Landmark Sitcom Season
Marking 60 years since the first broadcast of Hancock’s Half Hour, the BBC will be revisiting classic sitcoms. Revivals of Porridge and Keeping Up Appearances are expected and the season will be launched in summer 2016 with a one-off live edition of Mrs Brown’s Boys.

MUSIC

Black Foxxes
Loud, gimmick-free and instantly infectious, these young British rockers are building towards an exciting debut album in 2016. Expect smart lyricism and choruses bigger than an ocean.

Jerry Williams
We’ve become well and truly smitten with this Portsmouth pop songstress, with 2015’s Cold Beer EP helping to spread the word on her unique, Jamie T-style brilliance.

Alessia Cara
Having already secured a spot on Spotify’s Year in Music 2015 list, this Canadian singer/ songwriter and Def Jam artist is set to gain a new legion of fans when she tours the UK early next year.

Jack Garratt
Following in the footsteps of Adele, James Bay and Sam Smith, singer Garratt has been tipped for success with a Brits Critics’ Choice Award. His debut album will be released in the new year.

Shawn Mendes
The 17-year-old Canadian singer spent 2015 picking up awards – including Breakthrough Artist at the Streamy Awards and Best New Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards. He is nominated for Favourite Breakout Artist at the 2016 People’s Choice Awards and will likely soon finish “breaking out” and become a fully-fledged pop star.

Harry Potter And The Cursed Child
Tickets are like gold dust for the first instalment of a two-part West End Harry Potter stage play, opening in July. Novelist JK Rowling is collaborating on the play, which is set 19 years after the final Harry Potter book and follows a grown-up Harry and his youngest son, Albus Severus Potter. 2016 will also see the release of Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, a film set in the Harry Potter universe.

John Boyega and Daisy Ridley
Before they became two of the biggest stars in the most-anticipated film on the planet, these two Londoners were relative unknowns. Boyega had starred in Attack The Block while Ridley had small parts in a number of television shows. But now Star Wars has transformed them into lead actors, many more doors – and parts – will be open to them.

Alexander Skarsgard
True Blood’s Skarsgard will star in The Legend Of Tarzan alongside Margot Robbie, Christoph Waltz and Samuel L Jackson. The film tells the story of Tarzan who – having made a life in London – is called back to his former jungle home to investigate activities at a mining encampment.

Saoirse Ronan
Irish actress Ronan is tipped for Oscar success for her movie Brooklyn, based on the Colm Toibin novel about an Irish immigrant in New York. The 21-year-old is expected to be in the running for Best Actress.
