TV’s biggest stars were out in force as the 19th annual National Television Awards last night took place at London’s O2.
National Television Awards 2014 winners revealed
The glittering ceremony saw Coronation Street steal the show, taking home the Serial Drama gong and Corrie’s Julie Hesmondhalgh clinching the Serial Drama Performance prize. Voted for by the British public and hosted by Dermot O’Leary, the star-studded show aired LIVE and in peak time on ITV.
Kicking off proceedings was X Factor winner Sam Bailey, whose vocals truly wowed the crowd. Joined onstage by her musical hero Michael Bolton, who flew in especially to perform with Sam.
Not forgetting the children of Educating Yorkshire, their rendition of Ain’t No Mountain High Enough had everyone on their feet, opening the show in sensational style. Sam performed later in the evening with a stunning version of The Power Of Love.
A brand new award for 2014, competition in the TV Detective category was fierce. In true detective style, Kiefer Sutherland, better known to some as 24’s Jack Bauer, presented the gong. It was Benedict Cumberbatch who was the first to scoop the prestigious award for his role in Sherlock. After losing out to Merlin’s Colin Morgan last year, Cumberbatch scooped the Best Detective trophy in the 2014 National Television Awards.
In an exclusive performance especially for National Television Awards viewers, Nigel Harman and the cast of I Can’t Sing took to the stage for a rendition of Fabulous from the musical. The hilarious lyrics had the audience in stitches, even if the laughs were at Simon Cowell’s expense!
This year’s Landmark Award, presented by Phillip Schofield, went to NTA favourites, Ant and Dec, as they celebrate their 25th year in television. Since bursting onto our screens in 1989 on BBC kids drama Byker Grove, the Geordie duo rose to fame at a rapid rate.
Following a brief stint in the music industry, they went on to present some of the UK’s biggest shows including SMTV Live, Pop Idol and more recently I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! and Britain’s Got Talent. They’ve even won the NTAs Entertainment Presenter trophy for 13 consecutive years making this a truly deserved award for the pair.
In preparation for 2014’s biggest sporting event, the NTAs put on a World Cup preview.

Overseeing proceedings was Brazilian beauty Fernanda Lima and England manager Roy Hodgson. After Lima stole the show at the World Cup Draw in December, the couple were reunited for the glamorous ceremony and Lima’s dress did not disappoint.
The final performance of the night saw 2013 Strictly Come Dancing winner Abbey Clancy take to the stage for a very special dance routine. Joined by judges Bruno Tonioli and Craig Revel Horwood the blonde beauty set the stage alight with a contemporary routine to Pharrell William’s latest hit Happy.
The much sought after Serial Drama prize ended the evening with Coronation Street sensationally scooping the award, fighting off long standing rivals, Eastenders.
