Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe  will reprise his role in Michael Grandage Company’s production of Martin McDonagh’s play.

Daniel Radcliffe will return to Broadway as the Michael Grandage Company makes its stateside debut with a transfer of The Cripple of Inishmaan, by Martin McDonagh.

The Guardian report The New York run, which will preview from 12 April at the 1,082-seat Cort theatre before its official opening on 20 April, marks the first Broadway production of McDonagh’s classic story about the inhabitants of a small Irish town who clamour for roles in a locally shot Hollywood film.

Radcliffe won acclaim for his West End performance in the play, with several critics claiming it as his best on stage to date. Michael Billington wrote: “He makes you care about a character who, in some ways, is a clever literary conceit.”

The transfer caps a successful first season for the Michael Grandage Company, currently into its last leg at the Noël Coward theatre in the West End with Jude Law’s Henry V. In keeping with the company ethos that saw West End tickets available for £10, more than 10,000 tickets for the Broadway run will be priced at $27 (£16).

Grandage has had significant success on Broadway over the years, with a number of his Donmar Warehouse productions, including Frost/Nixon, Mary Stuart, Hamlet and Red, crossing the Atlantic. He won a Tony award for Red.

Though overlooked at the Evening Standard awards for his performance, Radcliffe has been shortlisted for best actor at the Whatsonstage awards after a public vote.

Radcliffe made his Broadway debut in a 2008 transfer of Equus, and returned three years later to star in Frank Loesser’s musical How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, to huge acclaim. Many in the industry thought he was unfairly overlooked at that year’s Tony awards nominations. The Cripple of Inishmaan will debut on Broadway just in time to be considered for the 2014 Tony awards nominations.
