The English National Opera announces Glenn Close to star in semi-staged production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Sunset Boulevard.
‘101 Dalmatians’ actress Glenn Close is to make her West End debut as Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard, as English National Opera harnesses some Hollywood star power.
The semi-staged production, with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, opens in April 2016 for a limited run of 43 performances.
Close will reprise the Tony Award-winning role she played 20 years ago on Broadway. The musical is based on the 1950 film about a faded movie star who utters the famous line: “I am big… it’s the pictures that got small.”
Lloyd Webber said: “I am thrilled that London audiences will at last get a chance to see Glenn’s performance in the role of Norma Desmond, which was so hugely acclaimed in the USA.”
The play directed by Lonny Price, will be the second co-production between ENO and the GradeLinnit Company, following a sell-out production of Sweeney Todd starring Emma Thompson and Bryn Terfel.
Tickets will range from £12 – 100 of these will be available for each performance – to £105.
