TV host and actor James Corden is reportedly already planning his return to Britain despite huge success in the US, but that could be four years away.
The 37-year-old actor and comedian moved Stateside in February (15) after landing one of the most sought-after jobs in show business – hosting The Late Late Show on CBS.
But just one year after making the move, with wife Julia and their children, five-year-old Max and 18-month-old Carey, James is said to be suffering severely with homesickness. In fact, this is having such an effect on the former Gavin And Stacey star that he is allegedly considering a U.K. return as soon as his £10 million ($14 million) deal with network CBS expires.
“He was openly talking about returning to London” The insider added that James is keen to do more work in the movie and theatre fields.
However, a move home isn’t going to happen anytime soon, as last August (15) CBS made the decision to extend his initial three-year contract by a further two years – meaning he is contracted to host the late night programme until 2020.
“Five years,” James said recently of his contract. “They can sack me at any point, but I don’t think I can leave.”
In addition to extending the length of the contract, CBS are also said to have upped his pay – to £1.5 million ($2.12 million) per year.
James has been a huge hit since taking The Late Late Show reins from Scottish comedian Craig Ferguson. His Carpool Karaoke segment in particular has proved popular with viewers, and the comedian has seen everyone from The Red Hot Chili Peppers to Mariah Carey and One Direction join him in the car for a singalong.
But James has been very open about his struggle with homesickness, telling the Evening Standard “I miss my friends and family. There’s a weird thing that happens at 2pm when you realise even if you wanted to you couldn’t phone them.”
