If running a business is something you’ve always been interested in, but never had the courage or resources to do so – online businesses might be something you could pursue. There are many reasons why you should consider starting an online business, but it’s easily the most accessible medium for new entrepreneurs.
Of course, it’s not completely foolproof, but there are many areas of running an online business that make the whole process easier for the business owner, and much less of a risk than you would be taking if you started up your own local business – even if it was just a small one!
It’s cheaper
If one of your concerns around starting a business is the amount of money it would cost you, then starting an online business is definitely the better choice. Ultimately, you can start your business as small as you want to, and you don’t need to go investing large amounts of money to get things off of the ground. You don’t even need your own website, and there are many online stores that run things from bigger eCommerce sites like Etsy or eBay. It’s much simpler that way, and while you won’t have a face to your business, it’s a good place to start generating profits.
A bigger market
Opening a small business in your local area puts you in a position where you have to cater things to the people around you. It can be hard to find an audience for your niche ideas, especially if you’re opening up in a small town – and that’s far too risky with your money. Running an online business opens you up to customers all over, meaning that you can get any number of customers who would be interested in your product.
Distribution will obviously be a concern if you’re going to ship your products long distances frequently, but that can often be solved by entrusting that to a bigger distribution company – just as bigger businesses do.
You’ll also need to consider that different countries have different trading laws, and for your business to operate legally, you need an LEI code and licenses according to your target country’s market.
You get a lot more free time
A local store requires there to be there running things all of the time, whether it’s to greet customers, or even just take care of small responsibilities. Online businesses give you a lot more freedom than that. Response emails can be automated, orders can be automated, and you only need to take care of what happens behind the scenes. Again, it’s not foolproof, and you’ll likely have a lot of work to do, but it’s nowhere near as much work as you would be doing if you run your own store.
You can work from home
Depending on the size and scale of your business, you can likely run things from the comfort of your own home. Even if you’re making your own products, it’s much easier if you’ve got the space to handle things where you are, rather than having to commute to a property that you would have had to pay for.
