Film 4’s Fright Fest — Exclusive “Angela Dixon’ Interview!
We had the honour of speaking to the lovely actress Angela Dixon. She is currently playing her lead role within Howard J.Ford’s “Never Let Go!” The film premieres Friday 28th Aug 2015, at Vue Cinema, Leicester Sq at 9 pm.
For those reading this: “Never Let Go” is a whiplash thriller with former FBI agent, now single mother Lisa Brennan! Brennan takes a holiday to escape an unhappy love affair and painful family memories. But in a heartbeat is not only faced with a daughter kidnapped by human traffickers, but also faces murder charges and must keep one step ahead of the foreign police.
If you haven’t seen the trailer already, then you are missing out! During our interview with Dixon I jokingly mentioned — “I wouldn’t want to get on your bad side. As you can kick some serious ASS!” (She laughed at the idea). I think it’s time I should fasten my seatbelt!
Angela Dixon was really fun to interview, we discussed the film “Never Let Go”, Her role as Lisa Brennan, and much more. Read the full interview below where we got down to the nitty-gritty of the movie business.
I’d firstly like to say — what an amazing film! Congratulations on playing the lead role in “Never Let Go’. I was gripped to my seat with the emotional adventure Lisa went through. I must say you really can kick some serious Ass! Remind me not to get on your bad side.
(Angela laughs)
To begin with, How are you feeling about Fright Fest 2015?
I am very excited. A few years ago I attended the festival and saw Howards film’s. I can see why people go. I experienced everyone’s enthusiams and the crowds at the event are amazing.
How did you and Film Director Howard J.Ford meet?
I met Howard at the Cannes Film Festival in 2011. We were having a laid back conversation on a Yacht talking about what the other did. Howard discussed his idea for a film, which was “Never Let Go” and I showed him a showreel of my work. We exchanged details and got on really well. He was somebody I really liked and wanted to work with at some point. Before I left our conversation I said — “I take risks, I’m strong and eager about this film”. Howard got thinking and called me, he said that: I’d be great for the role as Lisa Brennan.
How much of Lisa’s story with her child being kidnapped do you think reflects on our society today?
I know it’s a very Important and REAL issue. We all know specific incidents within this world. Child Abduction possibly happens more often than we’re already informed about.
Parents need to be aware of the dangers that are out there. You shouldn’t keep your children a prisoner in their own home, but there should be a balance of being aware and enable children to have freedom and trust.
Your website says you’re an actress who is — “passionate about story telling that entertains, challenges thought and evokes emotions.” I’m curious to know what did Lisa Brennan & “Never Let Go’ have, that ticked all those boxes?
I’d say all of the above! It definitely “Evokes emotion”. The response from people who’ve watched it so far say they got emotionally engaged to Lisa’s journey.
Even a friend of mine said: they were clasping their heart and holding tight to the chair (Angela laughs). “Challenging thought”, is by letting viewers know by raising awareness on the topic of child abduction, human trafficking and many more topics seen within the film. Also adding to “challenging thought” I think the fact that a female is playing a males lead role, where usually it is a male playing the lead role, that’s provoking man!
NEVER LET GO TRAILER
How do you feel women are being represented within 21st century cinema? What are your personal experiences? What would you like needs to improve.
“Storytelling is universal — the male perspective is not the only perspective”— I’ve grown more passionate about the topic of women to be cast protagonist roles in Cinema, TV, etc.
Statistics already show a low percentage. We are used to the idea of seeing men declaring lead roles in stories and dramas, and we’ve got used to the male way of thinking and feeling. It is only now that we’ve started to see women’s consciousness.
I recommend researching more about Geena Davis. She is an Actress and Women’s Rights Activist. She is a prominent woman whose helping to change voices within our industry.
What future plans have you got coming up within your career?
I have a number of things lined up. I met through Howard, his brother, Jon Ford. Jon and I have discussed a new film he is working on, details revealed soon. I play the lead role in a feature called ‘Homeless Ashes’ with Marc Zammit which I’m really looking forward to.
“Never Let Go” has helped open doors. I want to find more great work so I can use my craft again. Otherwise, everything’s running great!!
Film 4’s Fright Fest starts Thursday 27th August — Monday 31st August 2015. A great way to spend your Bank Holiday weekender. If you like a good fright that is?
