ranchón compares herself to water, being adaptable and always able to find a way to do a job exceptionally well. At the same time, she unveils more about her musical journey, the inspiration behind ‘Secret Place.’
1. How are you doing today?
I’m feeling great physically I’m processing a lot of things but I just take it like an athlete. I put in a lot of work now it’s time to let my muscles my mind, my spirit and everything recover so I can get right back out there and go harder. Above all things I’m grateful and I’m winning .
2. At the moment, what song do you have stuck on replay?
I’m still bumping Nipsey Victory Lap but I’ve honestly just been quiet inspired to go in the studio and create my own music to see what comes out I’m just in a really creative space.
3. What are your favourite albums that have no-skips?
Some of my favorite albums that have no skips almost anything by Brandy, almost anything by Usher and Micheal Jackson’s ‘Off The Wall’ is a master piece. I do like Renaissance by Beyoncé, Mya’s Smooth Jones is really good and Ciara ‘Evolution’ is good all the way through. Jadakiss Top 5 Dead or Alive, Kanye’s ‘Donda,’ I can listen to that all the way through. I don’t know I just I like all types of music and an artist that create bodies of work. A lot of artist these days don’t do bodies of works more so just hot singles but they are some of my top artist that I can listen to all the time.
4. When did you fall in love with singing?
I fell in love with singing when I was about eight years old and I don’t know why I wasn’t even a good singer, I just love the way the music is so intricate with many parts, lyrics, arrangement production, feeling and I didn’t know these things at the age but it really stimulated my mind and gave me a creative outlet.
5. Why did you decide to audition for American Idol when you were 17?
I decided to audition for American Idol at that time because my godfather and mentor Milroy heard me singing in his hair salon and it was a new show. Everyone basically hyped me up and I’m just an optimistic person who was newly transplanted from Virginia to Baltimore. I said why not, I know I can sing and I love to sing that’s the type of person I am. I’ll try anything once especially something that can move me forward into a positive direction.
6. At such a young age, how did you react to the outcome?
Honestly everything happen and it was on such a grand stage so when it happened I just literally felt my heart breaking on the inside. My mom always told me to stand strong even when your world crumbles around you, you have to stand firm. I think that heartbreak turn into fire and ignited something else inside of me. I can’t tell you why, but I said if I’m not the American Idol, I’ll be the middleweight champion of the world’ I hadn’t even won a national tournament. I didn’t even really know a lot about boxing on on a high level but that’s just what came out and maybe that was just the universe declaring my future. I’m a fighter in life.
7. What kind of music were you inclined to put out then versus now?
I’ve always been open minded to all types of music as a child I love Shania Twain, I love classical music. I don’t know how to play the classical instruments other than a violin at one point but I love classical music. I love orchestra I love theatrical music. I love R&B I love alternative I love all types of music. In putting out ‘Secret Place,’ which is a dance song at first I was like I don’t know if I can do it but after doing it it feels natural it’s a vibe.
8. You recently shred your debut single ‘Secret Place,’ what made you want to release music now?
I feel the stars aligned because music has always been a part of my journey, I’m The Heavy Hitting Diva. Music has always been my first love and I think my journey in life was to create my own platform that I can share my music and be different. You have plenty of people who can sing you have plenty of people who can box but for me I think I excel on both ends. I can’t wait to show the world my talent as of a Singer songwriter and continue showing the world why I’m one of the best boxers in history.
9. What makes ‘Secret Place’ the perfect debut for you?
‘Secret Place’ is the perfect debut for me because it is a little different than what people probably thought I would’ve put out. My team and I created this and wanted it to be an extra surprise for my boxing fans and just people who are fans of Franchón. I think it’s time dance music has made a resurgence and I think that this song fits the bill properly. I’m not trying to fit in but I think it makes the world feel good.
10. What is it about?
‘Secret Place’ is just like me, is not really in a box. ‘Secret Place’ is whatever you wanted to be in a romantic way, in a personal way in or a professional way. When I wrote this song it was basically a feel good vibe. I know my value I know my worth you have to be worthy enough to be in my presence. If I let you into my world just don’t betray my trust don’t disrespect me don’t make me regret it because this is something that is universally divine, this is a space that’s been created and perfectly aligned so just value it. It’s a happy place filled with magical love.
11. On top of your sport-history-making boxing career, how do you manage to give your all to both passions?
I think I go so hard because I’ve always had to work harder and I really had to take the rough road to success which I am not regretful for. A lot of people tried to suppress me and my talent so it’s been bottled up inside of me, so I’m going to turn up on a hater every chance that I get. I believe that I was born to do these things and my journey groomed me to do them.
12. Does your personality change at all when you’re Franchón the pop star, compared to Franchón, the boxing champion?
I don’t think my personality changes I’m extreme both ways but it is different versions of me. From boxing to singing to designing the core foundation is still Franchón, but it is different. It’s different people who take over I’m a Gemini so you just become these different people I guess. I am like water, I just become adapt, navigate and find a way to get the job done exceptionally well.
13. What else are you planning for this year?
Things happen and some people can view situations as the end but this is the beginning for me. I will be fighting again hopefully for world title looking to create more sports history including fight on some card with my husband. I look to perform in the US & UK while I’m working on more music. I will be putting together a fashion showcase maybe even have it as a show during NY fashion week and just building just building.
