Earlier this week, we premiered, the 20 years old singer/songwriter Hailey Rowe new single and now she hs told us about.
Hailey told our reporter Rebecca Done about her latest release “Don’t Need Your Approval”, plus reveals the huge amount of effort that has to go into getting your foot into the industry, besies revealing the 5 things she couldn’t live without.
What made you first realise you wanted to pursue a career in music?
I grew up with a stage in my basement. I would always make up songs and perform them with my friends. To me, that was WAY more fun than playing sports, taking dance lessons, or doing other hobbies most kids commit during their childhood. Also, my Dad used to sing and perform and has told me the one thing he regrets is not pursuing his music when he was young and had nothing to lose.
As a child growing up, music surrounds us, what type of music did you hear most back then?
I grew up learning classical music and show tunes in choir. In my free time, I listened to the Spice Girls, the Hanson Brothers, and all of the “NOW That’s What I Call Music” CDs, but I also hung around my Mom who was listening to a young Madonna, Billy Joel, Carol King, and other legends. My dad was very into country and my sister would introduce me to new Indie bands. I think being immersed in so many different genres has given me a great appreciation for all music.
For people who have never heard your music, explain your sound in 5 words:
Youthful, fun-beat, sassy, positive, big.
What can people expect to see at your live performances?
Little bit of everything! I sing so many different genres and cover songs so that everyone will be able to find something they enjoy. I have to be able to morph into the what my audiences want. I play corporate events, teen fashion shows, restaurant openings, charity events, etc.
What do you think has been your “biggest break” or “greatest opportunity” so far in your musical career?
My latest release, “Don’t Need Your Approval,” was on radio stations all over the U.S. and it made the Mediabase Top 100 Pop Chart for two weeks. It was an honor to be on the same list as artists I admire, like Taylor Swift and Katy Perry!
If you had the opportunity to change something about the music industry, what would it be?
There are SO many talented artists who never get heard by the masses. These days, artists have to come to a label with their own fan base, social media numbers, well-produced original material and lots of patience. If I could change one thing, I wish that all the talented artists who desire a stable music career could obtain it. I wish there was a clear map to follow, rather than just hoping to get your “big break.”
What are the 5 things you cant live without?
My two cats (Henry & Lily), my blender, a La-Z Boy rocking chair, a journal, refillable giant water bottle.
Ten years from now you will be?…….
Only time will tell. But right now, I hope I’ll be a spokesperson for people, especially young girls, who want to be the exception. A singer/songwriter who writes, records, and performs as much as I want. I would also love to be a major force in the fitness world with teaching classes, and blogging about healthy living.
If you had 5 minutes on earth to perform one song that would leave a great impact on the world today, what song would you perform and why?
My original song “I Want To Dream.” I wrote this song in 8th grade. The message is that you can always be the best you can be. At the end of the day, I want to know I followed my dreams in spite of the odds being against me.
Lastly fill in the blank… without music in my life I would be…………………..?
Colorless and depressing!
