Long Island, New York-born actress Ashlee Macropoulos talks to Mark Meets about her EMMY-nominated TV show “This Just In”, now in its second season on POP TV, and making the move to Hollywood.
Can you tell us a little about your early beginnings living in New York?
I had a great childhood growing up with a huge tight knit Greek family. Exactly what you would expect, with ten John and Nicks and lots of lamb. More importantly, lots of love and older cousins to tease me. It’s what gave me a thick skin in preparation for Los Angeles.
What drove you to make the move to Los Angeles?
I had always dreamed of coming to California and chasing my dream of being an actress. I blame the 90s, I was, and still have a deep love for movies like “She’s All That” and “Clueless”. Sometimes I’ll be at the beach in LA and suddenly feel like I’m transported into those movies.
Congratulations on ‘This Just In’. Can you tell us about the show and who is involved?
Love to! “This Just In” follows Liz Sandler as she navigates going to a new high school and the difficulties that ensure whenever high school is involved! We shoot at Associated Television International. The Show stars Elizabeth Stanton, with Wyntergrace Williams, Jennifer Veal just to name a few!
You play Cassie in the show; can you explain your character and how you prepare for the taping of the show?
Cassie is a very studious theatre geek so I journal a bunch as Cassie prepping for her many anxieties of high school. It’s fun for me because I revisit some of my old high school memories in the process, so much happens in life it’s funny what you recall.
In addition to acting, we understand you enjoy singing. Can you tell us a bit about that side of you, and are you ever able to mix that into your acting?
I sang a lot when I was younger, actually it is how I discovered my love for performance and then specifically acting but, I don’t do as much of it as I would like to these days.
What’s up next for you?
Aside from the second season of ‘This Just In’ coming out in the Fall, I am looking forward to the release of my debut film, “Glass Jaw”. It is a drama feature film, produced by Steve Perry. He has a history of making some really great movies like ‘True Romance’ and ‘Lethal Weapon’. I play Zoe opposite quite a few amazing well-known actors like Jaime Camil (Jane the Virgin), Reynaldo Gallegos (Logan), Mark Rolston (The Departed), Vernon Wells (Commando) and hip-hop artist Boosie Badazz. The movie follows the story of a one-time boxing champion who goes to prison and loses everything. After his release, he tries redeeming his reputation, his belt, and his true love. I am really excited about this movie – I hope you all get to see it!
