The British Soap Awards 2023 are on their way – here’s all you need to know.
Jane McDonald to replace Phillip Schofield as British Soap Awards host to celebrate another mammoth year in soap opera, the awards will look back on twelve months of murder, mystery, make-ups, break ups, trials, tribulations and tears.
The British Soap Awards are currently scheduled to air on TV on Tuesday, 6 June at 8pm. The event takes place at The Lowry in Salford. You’ll be able to watch on ITV1 and stream online via the ITVX website.
Phillip Schofield was originally due to host the awards but in May he resigned from ITV and stepped down from future TV projects. Taking over the role will be super soap fan Jane McDonald.
Jane said: “Oh my god…..everyone knows how much I LOVE my soaps, this year I’ve been honoured to be mentioned in Corrie, EastEnders and Emmerdale, so this is just a dream come true. I can’t wait to see all our wonderful soap nominees and celebrate all their hard work with them – roll on the awards, I can’t wait!”
As always, the award ceremony will celebrate a mammoth year in soap opera, looking back on twelve months of murder, mystery, make-ups, break ups, trials, tribulations and tears.
An incredible year in which Mick and Janine Carter dramatically departed Albert Square in EastEnders, Daisy Midgely fell victim to a dangerous stalker in Coronation Street, Warren couldn’t escape Norma’s lies and manipulation in Hollyoaks, Paddy considered taking his own life following a build up of isolation, grief and confusion in Emmerdale and Rob was left devastated following Karen’s sudden death in Doctors.
As ever, the five biggest soaps – Coronation Street, Doctors, EastEnders, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks – will be battling it out to win recognition for their work over the past year.
There are a number of awards voted for either by the public or a panel of expert judges.
The categories voted for by the public in 2023 are Villain of the Year, Best Young Performer, Best Leading Performer and Best British Soap.

The numerous awards will be presented by an array of well-known faces from across the TV and showbiz world.
