Chris Pratt favourite to star as Indiana Jones in franchise reboot

Following rumours of an Indiana Jones reboot, actor Chris Pratt has spoken out.

After the release of the fourth and most recent installment in the franchise – Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull (2008), a number of Hollywood names have been banded about to play the leading role.

Once again, Chris Pratt‘s name has surged as one of the leading candidates since January 2021 as MarkMeets.com confirm that the fifth movie in the Indiana Jones series will be the last for Harrison Ford starring in the lead role.

But don’t expect to see Pratt wielding a bullwhip dressed in a leather bomber jacket and fedora any time soon, according to the Jurassic World leading man, himself.

Basically, Pratt put all the Indiana Jones chatter to rest when he said he would never take over the iconic role of Dr. Henry Walton ‘Indiana’ Jones, Jr. during an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. 

‘I don’t even know who Steven Spielberg is. Who? Steven Who?’ Pratt joked before taking a more serious tone, where he got specific about whether he would take over the title role: ‘No, aren’t they doing Indiana Jones with Harrison Ford?’

It turns out Ford, now 80, frightened Pratt enough that he wants no part of the Indy role in a reboot.

‘All I know is I once saw a quote from Harrison Ford and I don’t even know if it was really him but it was enough to scare me, that was like, “When I die, Indiana Jones dies.” And I’m like, am I gonna get haunted by the ghost of Harrison Ford one day when he dies if I play…?’ said The Guardians Of The Galaxy star.

How Ford freightened Pratt: ‘All I know is I once saw a quote from Harrison Ford and I don’t even know if it was really him but it was enough to scare me, that was like, “When I die, Indiana Jones dies.” And I’m like, am I gonna get haunted by the ghost of Harrison Ford one day when he dies if I play…?’

That ‘scary’ quote from Ford actually came from an interview he did on the Today show in 2019: ‘Don’t you get it? I’m Indiana Jones. When I’m gone, he’s gone. It’s easy,’ Ford said at the time.

Now that quote can be read as intimidating for anyone with the desire and the chance to play Indiana Jones in a reboot.

Pratt was right on at least one front: Harrison Ford has in fact slipped back into the role once again in a still untitled fifth Installment that’s being directed by James Mangold.

Initially, Steven Spielberg was slated to direct the new movie, but he turned over the reigns to Mangold, and instead will now serve as one of the producers. As a result, this is the first time Spielberg won’t be helming an Indy film.

After being delayed a year by the COVID-19 pandemic, the shoot eventually kicked off in June 2021, at various locations in England and Scotland; making it to Sicily by October of last year.

The shoot finally wrapped up principal photography this past February, which is about five months ago.

And while Ford is back to reprise the title role, there are a number of new cast members, including Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Thomas Kretschmann, Boyd Holbrook, Shaunette Renée Wilson, Toby Jones and Antonio Banderas.

The fifth installment in the adventures of Indiana Jones is scheduled to premiere in theaters on June 30, 2023.

The tales of the fictional professor of archaeology began with the original film Raiders Of The Lost Ark (1981). The follow-up would be a prequel, Indiana Jones And The Temple of Doom (1984), and then came its sequel Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989).

It would be about 19 years before Spielberg and Ford were back onboard for Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull (2008).
