Frankie Boyle will be returning to the Edinburgh Fringe this year. The comic will be performing his ongoing tour show Lap Of Shame – which he launched at last year’s festival – at the Assembly Rooms for 11 nights from August 3.
Assembly will also put shows by Fringe stalwarts David O’Doherty, Ed Byrne and Reginald D Hunter on sale via its website.
O’Doherty – who is described in the official blurb as ‘he dishevelled prince of £10 eBay keyboards’ will be at George Square Theatre with a new show called Tiny Piano Man.
Byrne will be performing his show, Tragedy Plus Time, about ‘the most tragic event in his life’ at Assembly Rooms for a full Fringe run – the same venue where Hunter will be doing a work in progress of his new show The Man Who Could See Through Shit from August 11 to 20.
Also playing Assembly is Sian Davies, whose Best in Class initiative to help working-class comics play the festival won last year’s panel prize at the Edinburgh Comedy Awards.
And a number of Australian comics will also be joining the programme including nurse Georgie Carroll, Geraldine Hickey, who won the main prize at the 2021 Melbourne International Comedy Festival, and high-octane Lou Wall, and musical comedian Matt Storer.
They join a previously announced initial line-up at Assembly venues that included Frank Skinner, Gyles Brandreth, Jason Byrne and Susie McCabe.
The 2023 programme will be launched on Thursday 08 June.
Fringe takes place from 04 – 28 August 2023
