Elizabeth McGovern has revealed she won’t miss the ”tedium” of ‘Downton Abbey’, despite starring as Cora, the Countess of Grantham since the show’s first series.
The 54-year-old star – who has played Cora, the Countess of Grantham since the show’s first series – has revealed she is looking forward to putting the character ”to bed for a while”.
She said: ”I’m ready to put Cora to bed for a while, I really am. I’ve tried my best to bring her to life for six years. I’m looking forward to doing the same for somebody else.”
Elizabeth also admitted she finds making TV shows a ”slow, laborious process” and relies on her iPhone to keep her amused between takes.
She added: ”Making a TV show is a slow, laborious process. So, you name it, I’ve tried everything – reading books, joking around, listening to music, playing games. You just have to get through it. Just know that my iPhone is probably tucked under the pillow.”
The actress also insisted she has not once been affected by the emotional storylines she’s been a part of on the ITV drama.
She told The Sun: ”It’s not easy to pretend you’re looking at the body of your dead daughter, but I know that girl is going to stand up and walk away. I’m looking forward to doing new things and I feel it’s the right time for me to put Lady Cora to bed for a while.”
