Jodie Comer head stateside next year

Jodie Comer will make her Broadway debut in Prima Facie,

Susie Miller’s solo show will transfer to New York in early 2023 with the Killing Eve star set to reprise her performance. The BAFTA and Emmy Award winning star of Killing Eve has been widely lauded for her West End debut and is tipped to win the Olivier Award for Best Actress. The West End production has been a huge hit critically and commercially selling out the run. “[Comer] roars through Suzie Miller’s script. The play roars, too, sometimes too loudly in its polemic, but Comer works overtime to elevate these moments.”. “…giving a fearless, faultless performance.”

Produced by Empire Street Productions, the piece follows a young barrister, Tessa, whose life is transformed by a single incident.

Comer said: “It has been an absolute privilege to tell Tessa’s story here in London over the past few weeks and to now have the opportunity to take Prima Facie to Broadway is a dream come true.”

Prima Facie has an original score by Rebecca Lucy Taylor, with set and costume design by Miriam Buether, lighting design by Natasha Chivers, sound design by Ben and Max Ringham, video is by William Williams for Treatment Studio. US general management is by 101 Productions Ltd. Prima Facie is directed by Justin Martin.Venue and specific dates for the Broadway transfer are to be revealed.

“Prima Facie” is written by Suzie Miller, a former human rights and children’s rights lawyer, and directed by Justin Martin, best-known for overseeing “The Jungle” at St. Ann’s Warehouse.

It follows Tessa, a brilliant barrister, who has worked her way up from working class origins to the top of the legal food chain. But an unexpected event forces her to confront the lines where the patriarchal power of the law, burden of proof and morals diverge. Comer scored raves when the show debuted this year on the West End even if some critics felt the play itself wasn’t at her level.

Prima Facie edned its 9-week run at the Harold Pinter Theatre back in June of this year.

Comer recently starred opposite Ryan Reynolds in “Free Guy” and will appear in the TV series “Big Swiss.”

“Prima Facie” will play in 2023 at a Shubert Theatre to be named later.
