New song reduces Liam Payne to tears as One Direction world tour takes off

One Direction star Liam Payne has been wearing his emotions on his sleeve as he and his bandmates start their latest world tour, with the lyrics to their new single literally reducing him to tears.

The hit X Factor boyband kicked off their Where We Are tour in Colombia last night, and the Wolverhampton-born singer is understood to have choked up during their rendition of romantic ballad You and I.

One South American blogger who attended the show – tweeting under the name @1DUpdatesARG – claimed to have been told about Liam’s tears by his Irish bandmate Niall Horan after the concert in Bogota.

According to the source: “Niall said ‘I know Liam will probably be embarrassed by this but he cried a little while we were singing You and I’.”

Payne was obviously still emotional when he took to twitter himself later on that night, describing the gig as “the greatest experience of my life”.

Fellow Directioneer Harry Styles also added on twitter: “Columbia, thank you so much. You were the perfect way to start a tour. It’s been a while and you were incredible.”

Having got the first date of the tour out of the way, the 1D boys now only have a further 68 to perform, including Murrayfield Stadium next month.

Like the Colombian concert – which accommodated 38,000 fans – tickets for the Edinburgh gig sold out within minutes of their release in May last year.
