One Direction star Louis Tomlinson will make his professional football debut in March, when he is set to play for Doncaster Rovers against local rivals Scunthorpe.
The Yorkshire club made the headlines last year when they signed up Louis as a non-contract player – in aid of the Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice in Sheffield.
The 22-year-old had been due to make his first appearance for his local side’s reserves in September but had to pull out due to being injured when tackled by Gabby Agbonlahor during a charity match at Celtic Park.
Now the singer will finally get to fulfil a childhood dream and run out in the colours of his home team – with the number 28 shirt already assigned to him.
With Louis and his bandmates enjoying a break in their gruelling tour schedule, he got the chance to watch his side in a match against Blackburn on Saturday.
The Daily Mirror quoted him as saying afterwards: “We’ve got a couple of months off now but we’re usually abroad on tour so I don’t get to see Rovers that often.”
He went on to add: “I’m all right (as a player), I play right back – a bit hit and miss!
“We’re planning a reserve game in March before the band goes on tour in April.”
