Recording artist Rihanna has pledged $100,000 (£61000) to the Philippines typhoon relief efforts.
The Barbadian star has reached out as the country was recently hit by Typhoon Haiyan and its death total stands at over 5,500.
The ‘Stay’ star has donated the massive sum of money to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), who are helping with dealing with the typhoon’s horrific aftermath.
She said in a statement: “Emergencies make headlines, but the recovery continues long after the news cameras leave. Having been a fan and supporter of UNICEF’s work over the years, I am honoured to join them in helping children who have been impacted by Typhoon Haiyan.”
Rihanna added: “More than five million kids in the Philippines need our help. UNICEF is there for them today, and for the long road ahead, and so am I.”
A host of big names have contributed songs from their back catalogues for the compilation album Songs for the Philippines.
The Beatles, Katy Perry and One Direction all feature on the 39-track effort, which is available to buy on iTunes.
