Usher, a longtime friend of Justin Bieber’s, has given an update on his friend’s health, assuring fans the star is on the mend.
Bieber, 28 revealed he’d been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome last month, which had caused paralysis in half of his face.
The syndrome can flare up in individuals who experience a shingles outbreak and is caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox.
Usher spoke about his recent Idaho holiday with Bieber and his wife, Hailey Bieber, 25, adding that the singer was “doing great”.
“Seeing him on vacation, we managed to hang out with each other, and I think that whatever he may be experiencing right now, it’s actually really great to see that he has the support from his fans and his family,” the 43-year-old said.
Usher added that his relationship with Bieber goes back quite a while, in fact with the “introduction” of Bieber himself, when he became a star at 13.
“As an artist, I think we are all going to experience some things that people may not necessarily understand,” he said, noting that being a professional performer “comes with a great deal of pressure.”
Commenting on the closeness of their relationship, Usher added that he’s proud to still call himself a friend of Bieber’s.
“I think he has taken the world on a journey, and that journey I am happy that I was at the beginning of and I am actually still a part of to this day, as a friend,” he said.
Bieber has just started posting more regularly on social media since taking a break online, most recently sharing some photos of him and Hailey at a friend’s wedding.
Hailey also gave an update on her husband last month.
Hailey said of her husband’s recovery, “He is doing really well. He is getting better every single day. He’s feeling a lot better.
“Obviously, it was just a very scary and random situation to happen, but he’s gonna be totally okay and I’m just grateful that he’s fine.”
