What We Know About Taylor Swift’s Directoral Debut Feature Film

Taylor Swift Sets Feature Directorial Debut With Searchlight Pictures

Singer, songwriter and director Taylor Swift is set to direct a feature film for Searchlight Pictures based on a script she wrote herself. Searchlight presidents David Greenbaum and Matthew Greenfield said in a statement, “Taylor is a once in a generation artist and storyteller.  It is a genuine joy and privilege to collaborate with her as she embarks on this exciting and new creative journey.” The title and other details have not yet been confirmed.

It’s still early days, of course, so key details like a plot and casting, are being kept under wraps. But that hasn’t quelled any of the excitement for millions of Swift fans online.

Swift, who released her 10th studio album Midnights in October, wrote and directed a short film last year to accompany an extended version of her song “All Too Well (Taylor’s Version).” It was submitted for the 2023 Oscars, and won the 2022 VMA for Best Direction. The latter award made Swift, who also won in 2020 for “The Man,” the first solo artist to receive the honor twice.

Swift is an 11-time Grammy winner and the only female artist in Grammy history to win their most prestigious award, Album of the Year, three times.

The 14-minute production All Too Well: The Short Film, which Swift wrote and directed, recently screened at the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival and Toronto International Film Festival with a special 35mm print, following an exclusive theatrical engagement in NYC at the AMC Lincoln Square 15. All Too Well: The Short Film is one of the year’s eligible short film submissions for the upcoming 95th Oscars.

Searchlight Pictures recently announced Academy Award Nominee Yorgos Lanthimos’ next project AND with Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe set to star. Recent and upcoming releases include Martin McDonagh’s The Banshees of Inisherin; Mark Mylod’s The Menu; Sam Mendes’ E

If you’re not a fan of Taylor’s, you might be wondering how the singer has made her way onto such a prestigious lineup of directors — but don’t worry, you aren’t alone.
