Beyoncé teaming with Topshop

Beyoncé Knowles has always admired Topshop’s “forward thinking” and has now partnering with the high street fashion chain.

Today it was announced that the superstar singer is working with the British brand to create 50-50 joint venture company Parkwood Topshop Athletic Ltd.

According to WWD the athletic streetwear label will launch online by fall 2015 at the earliest, meaning mega fans still have at least a year to wait.

“I have always loved Topshop for their fashion credentials and forward thinking,” Beyoncé said.

It’s not unusual for big-name stars to work with high-street labels, and Kate Moss has designed with Topshop in the past. But its founder, Sir Philip Green, was keen to emphasise how this venture differs from others out there.

“This is not a collaboration. This is about building a brand and building a business – a separate, proper business, with separate overhead and a separate office,” he stated.

It’s long known that 33-year-old Beyoncé is a fan of the UK label and she’s often spotted in its pieces.

Philip revealed how their partnering finally came about.

“Basically, when she was in London in February we arranged to get together. We started talking generally, about doing something together,” he explained.

“We’ve been looking at that [athletic] sector for a while. It’s something we need to be in. Based on what she does, how she works out, the conversation got into that category. We started getting into proper conversation in May or June, as to how it would work. It took six or eight weeks to put a deal together. On Friday, Beyoncé came to our office for the last piece of the jigsaw puzzle.”

The line will be available via Topshop stores and its website, but will also roll out to other retailers.
