The 49-year-old actress attended the designer’s award ceremony last month in a stunning gold dress from Diane’s label, along with a pair of shoes from her own SJP shoe collection.

Sarah was pleased to support her close friend and also got a chance to take a selfie with winner of the People’s Choice Award, Veronika Scott, during the evening.

“[I took a selfie,] which I never do, because I feel like an idiot. But you wouldn’t believe how bright Veronika is,” Sarah gushed to The Edit. “I am very taken with [Diane]. The more I know the deeper part of her, the more I like her. She says crazy, wonderfully outrageous things!”

Sarah is popular in the fashion industry and is close to other designers, including Manolo Blahnik’s business partner George Malkemus, who helped create her footwear line. There’s also Giles Deacon, who the blonde star adores and trusted to create her outfit for the Met Ball last year. She rocked a ball-gown style dress and extravagant gold headpiece, topped off with thigh-high chequered velvet boots.

“Oh, he’s the sweetest!” Sarah gushed about the fashion star. “Giles’ designs have such a great sense of humour and irony, but they’re also beautiful and look great on a woman.”

During her spare time the former Sex and the City actress enjoys exploring cultural spots in New York City, such as the Museum of Modern Art. She recently visited the establishment with her son James, who she has with husband Matthew Broderick.

“For the second year in a row I visited the MoMA for my birthday. My husband was out of town, so James and I went to see the Gauguin exhibit. People say it’s the greatest exhibit of his work ever put together. But he died penniless,” she explained. “There was no recognition of his work by the art market. I mean, Gauguin! This is the common story with artists. Everybody is struggling to tell their story. But [designers] have this tenacity to go back, max out their credit card, show 10 looks instead of 30, whatever it takes.”
