Barbie movie soundtrack artists

The satirical movie follows Robbie’s Barbie experiencing an existential crisis which leads her to question her world and leave Barbieland behind to enter the real one.

Early reviews of the movie have been overwhelmingly positive, with entertainment critic including Mark Boardman praising Ryan Gosling’s standout performance as Ken and even suggesting that he should be considered for an Oscar nomination.

The Barbie movie has generated significant buzz, and now the star-studded soundtrack adds to the excitement. Rolling Stone unveiled the lineup of artists featured on the soundtrack in May, including Tame Impala, HAIM, Dominic Fike, Kali, Dua Lipa, and Ryan Gosling. The soundtrack was produced by Mark Ronson.

At the time of the announcement, however, two major artists were yet to be revealed for the soundtrack, with speculation rife amongst fans over who it could be.

On 6th July, Billie Eilish was revealed to have written a song titled What Was I Made For? alongside her brother and collaborator Finneas.

Then, on 10th July, Sam Smith was revealed as the soundtrack’s final contributor.

“I cannot begin to express how incredibly excited I am to be a part of the soundtrack to this already iconic film,” Smith wrote in an Instagram post. “I was invited by the incredible [Mark Ronson] and Greta Gerwig to write a song from the perspective of Ken for one of the scenes and we honestly had so much fun with this.”

The exciting line-up of artists teases some catchy musical tunes that will come from the film, not least Nicki Minaj’s remix of Aqua’s Barbie World, which became a global sensation in 1997.

A snippet of Minaj’s verse can be heard at the end of the newly-released main trailer, with the iconic “I’m a Barbie girl, in a Barbie world” being remixed.

Who produced the Barbie movie soundtrack?

Barbie: The Album is executively produced by Mark Ronson, who played a pivotal role in nailing down the perfect “Barbies” and “Kens” that would fit the voices of the soundtrack. His Barbie journey began after receiving a text from producer George Drakoulias, alerting him that Gerwig and Noah Baumbach were working on the film.

“Those two make some of my favorite films,” . “I thought, ‘Even if I don’t get this gig, I know this is going to be my favorite movie next year.’” So he agreed to the project, and he and Gerwig took off: “I became the Robin to her Batman,” he said.

Ronson also told the outlet of Gosling’s involvement on the soundtrack, particularly raving about his execution of the song “I’m Just Ken,” a song Ronson crafted specifically for the actor.

“He was just nailing it because he’s such an amazing actor,” the superproducer told Time. “I hadn’t also figured that, of course, he would sell this song better than anyone because he is Ken.”
