Stevie McCrorie believes his album will do well despite The Voice curse

The Voice 2015 winner Stevie McCrorie reckons he’s got the potential to break the show’s curse.

To date The Voice has failed to launch any successful winner with past champions all failing in the charts.

It was Stevie who won The Voice UK last year and he had the best start yet of any contestant when his winning single – a cover of Lost Stars – went into the Top 10, a better result than the most recent X Factor winner Louisa Johnson managed.

Now Stevie’s debut album is due out the pressure is on for it to be a success.

“I don’t have much to compare myself with as no-one from The Voice has had that success story,” he confessed. “I was the first to release a single. I’ve wrote my own album now so I feel it should do well.”

Speaking to the Daily Star, Stevie suggested that even if his record didn’t go straight to the top of the charts it wouldn’t mean the end.

“I don’t see myself taking off like One Direction,” he explained. “I want to build my fan base and to me that’s success – not being a millionaire.

“I want more than a few No 1 albums. I want to get like 30 albums out before I call it a day.

“I never want to stop – I just want to keep going.”

Stevie’s debut album Big World is released Friday, January 8, just ahead of the fifth series premiere of The Voice UK on the Saturday.

Chatting about the new run, Stevie quipped: “I probably will watch it but I’m hoping I’ll be too busy to watch it!”
