“Summer Series” 2015 is an eleven day music festival in July, hosted by Somerset House.

Each year receives a greater line up of talent. You’ll be introduced to variety of new acts and established singers. This year welcomes to the stage — George Ezra, Gary Clark Jr, James Bay, Belle and Sebastian, Jessie J — and many more!

My trip to Somerset House, caught me standing front and center, inside a sea of eager fans. The bill had, Gary Clark Jr, with support act Songhoy Blues, as tonights brilliant line up.

Award winning “Gary Clark Jr” — is a mind-blowing guitarist, a dazzling songwriter and engagingly soulful singer. His rhythm is noted to have influences from Rock and R&B, but also hints of the blues, soul, pop, psychedelia, punk and hip-hop.

He’s played with The Rolling Stones at their 50th Anniversary and even President Obama knows  — “He’s the future!” Clark Jr mentions how he loves his music bringing people closer and his surprise on how far it’s come — ‘As cool as I might try to be, I think, ‘Oh my God, this is real!’’

“Songhoy Blues” are Rock & Hip–Hop band originating from Mali, West Africa. The band members consists of: Aliou Toure, Oumar Toure, Garba Toure and Nathanael Dembele.

The band are influenced by their heritage with blend of modernism. If you listen to songs like “Irganda” and “Al Hassidi Terei” see Songhoy Blues blending the homegrown and the foreign, the youthful and the ancient. According to NME wrote, “A masterpiece of desert blues, blending American guitar licks with Malian groove”.

Returning back to the Summer Series at Somerset House, the eager wait from the fans was finally over. Lights, Sound check, Music! The fans went wild and welcomed first up —“Songhoy Blues”. Their elevated music with Malian Dance warmed up the fans.

Moments later, appearing from behind the smoke entered Gary Clark Jr and his band. The fans went ecstatic! A wonderful evening packed with singing in sync with Clark Jr’s songs.

Two hours went by and everyone wanted more. Personally, if you listen to his music, you can be taken back to when Hendrix played. One fan heckled “I love you Gary!”. A man of few words, Clark Jr replied “I love you to man”. Another fan said when the gig finished “It’s hard to find muscians that can play like that.’ Just goes to remind you of Obama’s words

“He’s the future!”
