The Rings Of Power star Morfydd Clark has opened up about a very particular training needed for the Lord Of The Rings spin-off series.
The show, which will premiere this week, takes place thousands of years before the events of Peter Jackson’s film trilogy, and is said to be one of the most expensive series ever made.
It’s based on the appendices of JRR Tolkien’s The Lords of the Rings novels, as well as The Silmarillion, Tolkien’s Unfinished Tales, and The History of Middle-Earth.
Morfydd, 33, is set to portray Galadriel in the series and revealed her prep for production – which took on a new direction after she found herself ‘flinching’ in scenes.
‘When I was playing Galadriel, the stunt-team said, “You’ve got a problem because you’re used to being attacked on film,”.
‘I would flinch a lot when people came at me. So they did exposure therapy with me, where I would have all these huge, huge men running at me, screaming with swords. To stop me from looking frightened. Because I’ve definitely been cast as the victim. And Galadriel is not that.’
His Dark Materials’ Morfydd and Game of Thrones’ Robert Amarayo star as elves Galadriel and Elrond, previously portrayed by Cate Blanchett and Hugo Weaving in Peter Jackson’s popular trilogy, and are joined in the cast by the likes of Sir Lenny Henry, Benjamin Walker, Nazanin Boniadi, Owain Arthur and A Discovery of Witches’ Trystan Gravelle.
The stars of the show descended on London on Tuesday for the glitzy premiere of the eagerly-anticipated series.
Amazon founder and executive chairman Jeff Bezos also rubbed shoulders with the stars, accompanied to the premiere by his news anchor girlfriend Lauren Sanchez.
The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power begins on Amazon Prime on September 2, with new episodes available weekly.
