The Screen Actors Guild awards are where actors get to pick their favourite performances of the year, and 2022’s crop features some typically great work. Among the people nominated on the film front are Andrew Garfield, Will Smith, Olivia Colman, Cate Blanchett, and the casts of movies including CODA, Belfast, CODA and House Of Gucci.
The nominees were announced by actors Vanessa Hudgens and Rosario Dawson on Instagram Live.
The 28th Screen Actors Guild Awards will be at 01:00 – 03:00 on Monday, 28 February 2022, MarkMeets can reveal.
Some of the expected names are on here, of course – Benedict Cumberbatch has been getting plenty of attention for his work on The Power Of The Dog, while Ben Affleck is back in contention thanks to The Tender Bar. Jessica Chastain, a regular feature on awards lists, landed a nomination for The Eyes Of Tammy Faye, while her co-star Garfield is up for Tick, Tick… Boom! The biggest surprise here, though, has to be someone who didn’t make the list – Spencer‘s Kristen Stewart, who has been scoring nominations left and right.
Will Smith, Lady Gaga, Ben Affleck score SAG nominations
The SAG Awards have more of the awards season spotlight this year since the Golden Globes — usually the kickoff party to final Oscar stretch — made barely a peep. The Globes were unceremoniously announced Sunday on Twitter in a private ceremony due to Hollywood’s boycott of the beleaguered Hollywood Foreign Press Association over diversity and ethical issues. The omicron surge also prompted the Critics Choice Awards to postpone its Jan. 9 in-person gala. For the second straight year, Oscar season has gone virtual — and struggled to make much noise.

Check out the full list of nominations, including – as has been SAG tradition for a while – a welcome list of outstanding stunt work. The awards are returning to an in-person live event (albeit with COVID protocols) on 27 February.
